Why A Volunteer Needs This Most
A responding officer has never met your safety team, and has about three seconds to decide who you are.
A sworn officer at least shares a radio channel, a briefing and a face with the units arriving. A church safety volunteer or a school security staffer has none of that. They are, to an arriving officer, an armed or actively intervening stranger.
That is the entire problem the banner was built for, and it is sharper here than it is in law enforcement. The banner comes off your belt with one hand and crosses your torso, so it reads from the front, the side and from behind, which is where most misidentification actually happens.
It also comes off as fast as it goes on. Once the scene is stable and the uniforms have it, you are not the person still wearing a sash.
